About Utrecht Ballroom Scene / BALLROOM WORKS

BALLROOM WORKS operates under the name Utrecht Ballroom Scene. We organise events, workshops, and community programs in Utrecht for the Dutch ballroom scene, with a focus on trans people and queer POC. 

Our work includes:

  • Weekly classes and ballroom workshops
  • T4T Days: dedicated community days for and by trans people
  • Community Days: gatherings focused on connection, learning, and community building within the ballroom scene, with a focus on trans and queer POC
  • The Lab: community practice/function for the ballroom scene to train in categories
  • An annual Ball

To support our growing program of events and community initiatives, we are looking for a Marketing & Communications Fellow to join our team between April/May/June up until August 2026 (earlier start preferred).

You will work closely with the Director to help promote our programs, grow our audience, and strengthen our community outreach. The fellowship will also involve supporting the promotion and communications for our annual Ball taking place in summer 2026.

What you will do:

Your work will focus on marketing, communications, and outreach for our programs and events.

Marketing & Communications

  • Event promotion: Promote our classes, workshops, and community programs to increase participation and visibility.
  • Social media management: Manage and grow our Instagram with engaging and creative content.
  • Content creation: Create visuals, stories, short videos, and written content highlighting our community, programs, and artists.
  • Email marketing: Write newsletters and manage our mailing list to keep our community informed about upcoming activities.
  • Website & SEO: Create website content and help improve the visibility of our programs online.

Community & Partnerships

  • Strategic partnerships: Assist the Director in building collaborations with cultural institutions, community organizations, and artists.
  • Community outreach: Help connect with new audiences and strengthen relationships with the ballroom community.
What you will learn:
  • How to develop and run marketing campaigns for grassroots cultural events
  • Social media strategy and audience growth for community organizations
  • Email marketing and digital communications
  • Community outreach and partnership building
  • How to collaborate with strategic partners, artists, community members
  • Behind-the-scenes insights into running a non-profit in the queer cultural sector
What we ask:
  • Interest in ballroom culture and queer community organizing
  • Interest in marketing, social media, or communications
  • Interest in working with grassroots cultural organizations
  • Currently studying or having completed a relevant study
  • Fluent in English, Dutch is a bonus but not required
  • Creative and proactive attitude
What we offer:
  • Paid fellowship of €220 per month based on 16 hours per week
  • Work two days per week at our office in Amsterdam (near Vondelpark)
  • Mentorship from the Director of the Foundation

Practical details:
  • 16 hours per week
  • Two days per week in person in Amsterdam (Mondays and Thursdays)
  • Compensation: €220 per month
  • Start date: April, May, or June 2026 (earlier is preferred)
  • Duration: until August 2026
