About Utrecht Ballroom Scene / BALLROOM WORKS

Queer Culture Foundation operates under the name Utrecht Ballroom Scene. We organise events, workshops, and community programs in Utrecht for the Dutch ballroom scene, with a focus on trans people and queer POC.

Our work includes:

  • Weekly classes and ballroom workshops
  • T4T Spaces: community events for and by trans people
  • Doll House: workshops by trans women for those exploring feminine expression
  • The Lab: community practice/function for the ballroom scene to train in categories
  • After School: a personal development program focuses on life skills
  • An annual Ball

We have a lot of events to organise and promote next year, so that’s why we’re looking for an intern starting in January or February 2026 until June to directly work with the Director to make all our plans possible.

  • How to market and promote grassroots community events and programs
  • How to collaborate with strategic partners, artists, community members
  • Behind-the-scene insights into a non-profit in the queer community

What we ask:

  • Passion for/interest in ballroom culture
  • Eagerness to work on both creative (marketing) and practical (events) tasks
  • Fluent in English, Dutch is a bonus but not required
  • Pro-active attitude

What we offer:

  • Paid fellowship of €280 per month based on 20 hours per week
  • Working 2 days per week at our office in Amsterdam near Vondelpark, the rest of your time can be flexibly scheduled remotely
  • Travel costs are reimbursed for going to our events in Utrecht, but not for the regular office days in Amsterdam
  • A chance to build your portfolio (events, content, campaigns)
  • Mentorship from the Director of the Foundation
  • Networking opportunities in the queer scene and cultural sector of Utrecht
  • The joy of seeing your work directly impact the community
