Celebrating Ballroom Culture

About this event

Ballroom culture was originally created by the Black and Latin LGBTQIA-community to create a safer space in which they could freely express themselves and feel a sense of belonging.

‍

Icon Jack (Mizrahi) Gorgeous Gucci created the Sex Siren category in 1995, dedicated to uplifting the sexual expression within the community. At the same time, this category would serve as a safer space to experiment and protect Black Queer sexuality, especially for sex workers.

‍

Sex Siren stands out as the beauty category concerning the sex appeal, an artistic expression of inner sensuality and perceived desire. As any other category in Ballroom, confidence is key: it is not about asking if you are sexy, it is about owning your own sensuality.

‍

Legendary Mother Naïmah Mermaids is an expert in doing so. Known for her body and undeniable sex appeal, Legendary Naïmah stands as an inspiration on how to conquer your confidence and sensuality, and how to let your inner siren take over.

‍

Naïmah’s journey began in 2008 when she was introduced to ballroom through her brother and instantly fell in love with the culture. In 2012, she moved to New York City on a mission to learn more about the scene and its history, with performance as her main category.

‍

In 2015, she returned to Europe and became an active part of the ballroom community there, walking categories such as Sex Siren, Body, and Realness. In 2023, she was deemed Legendary by Icon Jack Gorgeous Gucci in Paris.
